The Whole Past is building a small, paid team around research, editorial work, visual history, and public scholarship.

To preserve the project’s curated approach, the core team will remain deliberately limited. We are more interested in a small number of people doing substantial work than in building a large volunteer organisation.

Current and anticipated roles

Managing Editor
Works closely with the Founder & CEO on editorial direction, commissions, submissions, editing, and the publication calendar.

Research Editor
Supports research quality across the platform, including source review, fact-checking, historical framing, and the development of new themes and projects.

Visual & Digital Editor
Leads maps, visual histories, digital exhibits, and the presentation of historical material across The Whole Past.

Partnerships & Outreach Lead
Develops relationships with scholars, archives, museums, universities, and other organisations aligned with the project’s work.

Research Associates
Contribute to specific editorial and research projects, including archival research, thematic dossiers, maps, source collections, and background research.

All positions with The Whole Past are paid. Openings are limited and recruitment takes place only when there is a clear role or project need.

Who we’re looking for

We welcome people from history and adjacent fields, including archaeology, anthropology, area studies, international relations, art history, literature, museum studies, digital humanities, design, and archival work.

Strong research skills, intellectual curiosity, careful sourcing, and an ability to communicate complex ideas clearly matter more than having a particular degree title.

Apply

When positions are open, they will be listed here with the role description, expected commitment, and compensation.

You may also send a brief expression of interest to thewholepast@gmail.com with your CV and, where relevant, a writing sample or portfolio.
