The Whole Past welcomes original, accessible writing that helps readers see world history beyond narrow national or Eurocentric frames.
We are especially interested in work that traces connections across regions, follows the movement of people, ideas and objects, or brings overlooked historical worlds into conversation with one another.
We welcome:
- Essays and short historical features
- Object histories
- Archival and primary-source pieces
- Maps and visual histories
- Book and exhibition essays
- Interviews with scholars
- Comparative and connected histories
Submissions should be original, clearly argued, and written for an intelligent general audience. Academic expertise is welcome, but unnecessary jargon is not.
Most pieces should be between 800 and 1,500 words, though longer submissions may be considered where the subject requires it.
Please include your draft or pitch, a short author bio, relevant sources or references, and any images, maps, or archival material you would like considered, with credits where applicable.
All submissions are edited for clarity, accuracy, and style. Publication is selective, and submission does not guarantee acceptance.
